Every year the Mid-Atlantic Morgan Horse Club
hosts the Mid-A Morgan Horse Show in June at the Virginia Horse Center
in Lexington, VA. Over 200 classes are offered covering a wide variety
of disciplines. With a 4,000-seat coliseum and stabling for 1,200 horses
in eight barns, the Virginia Horse Center boasts breathtaking views and
pristine grounds. Mid-A '08 Announces Judges Gerry Rushton of Rushton Stables in Gavilan Hills, CA, has operated a public training stable for 25 years. He has trained more than 40 Morgan World Champions, and personally, he has shown four Morgans to Open World titles, including the great stallions Fletcher Banjo John and CCR's Outrajus Corajus. He has been a licensed judge for 18 years, and has bred several world and national champion Morgans. Jennifer Sommers of Alta Loma, CA, is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University with a degree in equine science. She returned to the university to teach a variety of courses in the equine studies program. For 11 years, she coached the university's equine judging team to several championship honors at the Morgan Grand National, the US Arabian Nationals and the Quarter Horse World Championship shows. Jennifer trains Morgans from Royal Griffith Farm, and she and her husband breed Morgans with the Deer Creek prefix. Jennifer has shown and trained several world and national champions, including Startrend Stepin Out and Black Tie Affair. At the November 2007 meeting of the show committee, Dr. Albert Lucine announced his retirement as Show Committee Chairman, a role he has held for more than 40 years. The membership would like to express their gratitude for his seemingly endless energy and drive on behalf of the show. The position was filled by Charles P. Staley. CP brings much experience to this role as he has been to every Mid A Show of his life, and has volunteered at the show since he was 14 years old. His late grandfather, Mike Brittain, was the show's first manager.
